reform art action drug policy allianceOn Monday, March 4, the Drug Policy Alliance (DPA), the nation’s leading organization promoting drug policies grounded in science, compassion, health and human rights, will host its fifth re:FORM art auction and cocktail benefit at C24 Gallery in New York City. Contributing artists to this event include Marilyn Minter, Fred Tomaselli, Aurel Schmidt, Judy Chicago, Swoon and more than 50 others.

re:FORM represents a growing partnership between the art world and the drug policy reform movement, bringing together people interested in the creative arts while promoting profound social change. The four past art auctions have featured supporters like Darren Aronofsky, Peter Lewis, George Soros and Elizabeth Sackler.  For this fifth event, Paulette Cole, CEO and creative director of ABC Home, will join with Richard Branson and Deepak Chopra as co-chairs of the auction.

Virgin founder Richard Branson has been an outspoken advocate against the war on drugs, and has stepped forward by joining DPA in support of this event. Branson is a member of the DPA’s Honorary Board, which includes prominent figures who are renowned for their leadership in the fields of law, health, business, media and politics — from Russell Simmons, Arianna Huffington, and Sting to former U.S. Secretary of State George P. Shultz, U.S. Secretary of Defense Frank Carlucci, and Chairman of the U.S. Federal Reserve Paul Volcker.

Branson is joined by the newest member of DPA’s Honorary Board, Deepak Chopra, who officially joined forces with DPA last fall. Chopra is a physician, bestselling author and global thought leader who has sold more than 20 million books worldwide, including 19 New York Times bestsellers.

The Drug Policy Alliance is leading the way to advance policies and attitudes that best reduce the harms of both drug use and drug prohibition, and to promote the sovereignty of individuals over their minds and bodies. Few public policies have undermined fundamental civil rights and liberties, social justice and public health to such an extent as the drug war. DPA has been working in New York for nearly 20 years, and was the driving force behind the reform of the state’s draconian Rockefeller Drug Laws.  This year’s auction will build support for our ongoing work to end the war on drugs and to shift drug policy from a criminal approach to a health-based approach.

re:FORM is inspired by artists throughout history who have used art as a vehicle for social change. It is our hope that this show will enlighten others to join us in our attempt to stop the madness of the war on drugs.
