now hiring marijuana job jobs

now hiring marijuana job jobsI got contacted more last week about a job opening that I ever have in my life. That job opening is with the City of Portland (Oregon), and apparently it’s a job that will be in charge of marijuana regulation for the rose city. I have no interest in living and working in Portland, Oregon, but if you live in Portland, Oregon, and want to work on the front lines of Oregon’s marijuana legalization implementation process, I encourage you to check it out. Per Willamette Week:

As first reported in Wednesday’s Murmurs, Portland City Council on Nov. 12 approved a recreational-marijuana staff position, reporting to city liquor licensing specialist Theresa Marchetti. The manager will represent City Hall as the state sets rules about where and when pot shops can operate.

“We know there will be a significant role for the city in both ensuring a smooth implementation and reasonable enforcement,” says Josh Alpert, who has led Mayor Charlie Hales’ marijuana policy. “We are hiring a staff person now to help the city get ready for both.”

The position pays $65,800 per year. Portland will no doubt be home to more recreational marijuana stores than any other city in Oregon, as suggested by the fact that there are more medical marijuana dispensaries in Portland than any other city in Oregon. If Public Policy is your thing, and you love marijuana, I’d give this job opening a serious look if I was you. However, be advised that these jobs are usually filled by someone who has no experience with marijuana at all, and I highly doubt they are going to hire someone who likes to consume marijuana outside the workplace.
