michigan marijuana legalization milegalizeAs the group launches the second half of their petition drive to create personal use and business rules for a legalized marijuana industry, the MILegalize campaign announces a Genesee County fundraiser dinner at the Flint Golf Club on October 16.

MILegalize is the common name for the Michigan Comprehensive Cannabis Law Reform Committee. The petition drive was launched June 25th in a ceremony held on the steps of the State Capitol Building. MILegalize has until Christmas to collect 253,000 valid signatures on petitions to ensure the issue of legalized adult use of marijuana appears on the November 2016 general election ballot.

The event is scheduled to coincide with a matching funds donation period. A generous anonymous donor has volunteered to double all monies raised by the MILegalize campaign during the month of October, up to a maximum of $100,000. The campaign has met previous matching funds offers, including a $100,000 offer concluded in July and a $50,000 matching contribution in August.

Flint-area businesses have been a strong factor in the success of the first half of MILegalize’s campaign. “We held a Town Hall rally at The Sweet Leaf,” said Flint Township resident and MILegalize Board member Rick Thompson. “Our support is strong in Genesee County.”

The Flint Golf Club event is being sponsored by the law firm of Kirsch Leach and Associates. “This event is a special kind of gift to the MIlegalize ballot proposal, and we’re grateful to the firm for hosting,” said MILegalize Chair Jeffrey Hank.

The Flint Golf Club fundraiser on October 16 is targeted at industry leaders, attorneys and interested citizens able to provide a minimum donation of $1,000. The evening’s program includes a plated dinner and a select number of speakers.

In a recent press release the MIlegalize group announced that the petition drive was going well at the halfway point. “We have a volunteer army of incredible size and energy,” Hank noted. “We need donors to match that enthusiasm and help us finish this campaign the right way.”
