Anchorage Assembly members Ernie Hall and Amy Demboski will introduce four marijuana-related ordinances at tonight’s assembly meeting. The primary ordinance says that marijuana must be kept in the trunk of one’s vehicle.

“Voters legalized marijuana for people 21-years-old and up,” says Conrad Daley, president of the Alaska Cannabis Growers’ Association. “People voted to regulate marijuana, not over-regulate it. Folks who purchase alcohol do not have to transport their property in their trunk, so why should marijuana consumers be targeted like this?”

“Marijuana consumers should be allowed to transport marijuana in the cabin of their vehicles, just like alcohol consumers,” says Daley.

Meanwhile, the ACGA continues to build support within the local cannabis community and industry.

Southside Garden Supply, Anchorage’s locally owned and operated indoor garden store, and the Alaska Cannabis Institute, Alaska’s premier cannabis education provider, announced today they have joined the Alaska Cannabis Growers’ Association, a non-profit organization focusing on cannabis growers’ interests through industry advocacy, education, and more within the cannabis industry.

“Every cultivator needs access to resources – soil, ballasts, nutrients, and other essentials,” says Julie Martin, co-owner of Southside Garden Supply with her husband Rob Martin. “We are local, we have three locations, we have knowledgable staff, and members of the ACGA get product discounts.”

“Growing quality cannabis isn’t easy,” says Rob Martin, co-owner of Southside Garden Supply. “Southside Garden Supply can help take a lot of the risk out of growing cannabis by providing cultivators with equipment designed specifically for indoor marijuana gardens.”

“The Alaska Cannabis Institute’s mission is to educate and connect cannabis-minded people with the best resources,” says Cory Wray, director of the Alaska Cannabis Institute. “By joining the Alaska Cannabis Growers Association, our students will have access to perks only the ACGA can offer, such as member discounts at Southside Garden Supply, and other ACGA partners.”

The ACGA offers three different types of memberships – associate, corporate, and growers. Each level comes with unique benefits and perks, like voting rights and board eligibility.

“Southside Garden Supply continues to show support for the cannabis growers in Alaska,” said Conrad Daley, President of the Alaska Cannabis Growers’ Association. “This is an important time for all of us to pull together, to ensure the marijuana rules and regulations are written in a sensible way that promotes fairness, opportunity, and community.”
