From all of us here at Show-Me Cannabis, we hope you are enjoying your cannabis culture holiday, and we hope that you will also use the date as an opportunity to take positive action for the cause!

As I wrote on Friday, we hope to raise $5,000 by finding four donors to match up to $1,000 raised by the end of the day today. At the time, we had two donors willing to make that match, but a third matching donor has stepped forward. So, currently, for every dollar that you contribute, Show-Me Cannabis will receive four dollars!

I still hope to find one more matching donor by the end of the day, but to take full advantage of this opportunity, we need a few more contributions from supporters like you. Since Friday, we have received $581 in online contributions (not counting those for events), which leaves just $419 to go. (Yes, that is the real number; I was amused, too.)

Help us reach our goal by making a contribution of $25 or $50 now! If you aren’t able to give that much right now, consider giving $4.20 in honor of the day. You can go here to make it a recurring contribution, which we will count as five times the value of a one-time contribution.

I would also encourage you to contact your legislators today. In particular, you should encourage your state senator to vote in favor of SB 386 when it comes to the floor for a vote in the near future. That bill will expand access to CBD by allowing far more qualifying conditions, giving all doctors the ability to recommend it, and increasing the number of cultivators from two to ten.

On the House side, HB 830, which would legalize the production of industrial hemp in Missouri has been placed on the House perfection calendar, so it should be discussed on the floor soon. Ask your state representative to support HB 830 and give our farmers access to the half billion dollar annual domestic hemp market. If you are not sure who your state legislators are, you can look them up on the state Senate website here.

Finally, those of you in Columbia and Saint Louis, don’t forget about the 4/20 festivities tonight:

  • In Columbia, Mid-Missouri NORML is hosting “Blues Goes Green” with performances by Southern Pride and Tiedyed at The Bridge at 1020 East Walnut. Doors will open at 7:00 p.m. on 4/20, and the live music begins at 8:00. Entry is free, but be prepared to bid on auction items to support your Mid-Missouri cannabis reformers! Join the Facebook page here.
  • In Saint Louis, the two day Crawl for Cannabis on Cherokee Street continues tonight starting at 6:00 p.m. You can check in at Mr. Nice Guy and then enjoy specials from Fortune Teller Bar, I Scream Cakes, Melt, Earthbound Beer, Whiskey Ring, Failed Society, Yaquis, ArtBar, MasterPieza, Buttonmakers.net, Buddah Body & Bath, Retro 101, Blank Space, Little Dipper, Art Monster, and Confluence Kombucha. At 9:00 p.m., the crawl will come to a close with a concert and after party at 2720 Cherokee. You can still purchase tickets ($15 general admission, $35 VIP) online here and invite your friends on Facebook!
  • In Kansas City, drop into the Riot Room in Westport for the 4/20 Takeover with Mouth and Purusa, and a late night set from Thumpur. Tickets are $10 for the show, and Show-Me Cannabis will have a table set up, including a small raffle. Check out the Facebook event for more information. The show starts at 8:00!

However you spend the rest of the day, we hope that you will take a moment to reflect on how dramatically our country’s and our state’s attitudes and laws on cannabis have changed since April 20 last year or — even better — five years ago. Then, resolve to do at least one thing that will make April 20, 2016, even better than April 20, 2015.
