If you are a loyal reader of this blog, then you are likely already familiar with Jeff Mizanskey. But for those that aren't, Jeff Mizanskey is currently serving a life sentence in Missouri for non-violent marijuana-only offenses. He has been serving that prison sentence for over two decades. For a very long time it looked like Jeff Mizanskey would have actually serve the rest of his life in prison, but recently Missouri Governor Jay Nixon commuted Mizanskey's sentence. Commuting a sentence isn't the same as a pardon, which would have immediately freed Mr. Mizanskey, but it does afford Jeff Mizanskey a parole hearing.
It is with a very happy heart to report that Jeff Mizanskey has been granted a parole hearing, which is set for August 6th. Jeff will be represented by one of my all time heroes, attorney (and long time activist) Dan Viets. Dan Viets is one of the best attorneys on this planet, and is very capable. With that being said, this should not be a hard decision for the parole board. Jail beds are in limited supply, and they should only be reserved for the worst kinds of criminals. Jeff Mizanskey does not fit that description, in any way, shape or form. Jeff has BEYOND served his time for what he did, and should be freed to be with his family.
If you want to help Jeff Mizanskey, which I hope that all of you do, you can contact the parole board to let them know what you think. Please be kind in your correspondence. This is a very delicate matter, and people shouldn't use this as an opportunity to be obnoxious and to vent about personal matters. Be to the point, and use facts.
