It’s Looking Like A Clean Sweep For Marijuana Reform In Lansing, Ferndale, And Jackson, Michigan
Three cities in Michigan voted whether or not to remove marijuana possession penalties today. It appears that all three are going to win. In Lansing, Jackson, and Ferndale, Michigan, voters were asked to amend city charters to ensure “that nothing in the Code of Ordinances shall apply to the use, possession, and transfer of less than one ounce of marijuana, on private property, by a person who has attained 21 years.” From what media reports out of Michigan are saying, the marijuana reform efforts all won by pretty large margins.
In Ferndale, with 100% of precincts reporting marijuana reform voting, won 2,332 yes votes to 1,035 no votes.
In Jackson, the vote was declared a victory for the ‘yes’ side 2,242 votes to 1,434 votes.
In Lansing, with 43 out of 43 precincts reporting, yes votes are winning 61.6% to 38.4%
When you combine these victories with the one in Portland, Maine, its another stellar election for marijuana reform. I can’t wait to see how many cities and towns try this approach in the 2014 and 2016 elections. It’s a great way to get small victories that add up to big things, and will no doubt contribute to an eventual state wide victory. Go get ’em Michigan!
