Since 2012, we have commemorated Independence Day with our Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness Money Bomb. Our forebears pledged their lives, fortunes, and sacred honors to each other in their struggle for liberty from the British. So, in addition to fireworks and barbecue, those of us who continue the struggle for human freedom today should honor the occasion by pledging our support to the causes we hold dear.

If you are not familiar with the concept, a money bomb is essentially an online pledge drive where people come together to meet a contribution goal in a specific time period. When we held the first Independence Day money bomb in 2012 our goal was a modest $1,000.

I am happy to say that we exceeded that goal by nearly half, but still that shows just how much Show-Me Cannabis has grown in just the last two years. During our last money bomb at the beginning of the spring, we raised over $10,000 in just a few days, and that money enabled us to post billboards, establish continuous radio advertising, and bring a number of medical cannabis patients and advocates to Jefferson City to speak to their legislators back in April.

$10,000 was an ambitious goal in March, but we aim to top it - multiple times over. We are finding large contributors who are willing to match the grassroots contributions given during the money bomb dollar for dollar!

That means that if we raise $10,000 in grassroots contributions, we could end up raising $30,000, $40,000, $50,000, or even $60,000 depending on the number of large contributors who are willing to match.

We’ll have much more to say about the money bomb next week, but for now, please join the Facebook event page and invite your friends and family.

A successful initiative campaign to legalize cannabis will likely cost in the neighborhood of $5 million, and I believe that this event can be the foundation upon which we build that campaign. I hope you will help lay the cornerstone.
