More Than 300 Physicians From Over 65 Localities Across Colorado Have Endorsed Amendment 64

Over the course of this campaign, I have been truly inspired by the hundreds of prominent organizations and individuals here in Colorado that have come out in support of regulating marijuana like alcohol. Whether it’s been members of law enforcement, political leaders on both sides of the aisle, academics, or attorneys, the people of Colorado clearly see that Amendment 64 is important for the future of our state.

And just yesterday, another influential community took a stand.

More than 300 physicians from over 65 localities across Colorado have endorsed Amendment 64. The campaign was joined by Dr. Larry Bedard, former president of the American College of Emergency Physicians, and Dr. Bruce Madison, associate medical director of the faculty at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. The past president of the Colorado Medical Society, Dr. Christopher Unrein, is also among the physicians who have signed on in support of the initiative.

Perhaps Dr. Madison put it best: “As physicians we have a professional obligation to do no harm. But the truth is that the Colorado marijuana laws do just that, by wasting hundreds of millions of dollars in a failed War on Marijuana, by ruining thousands of lives by unnecessary arrest and incarceration, and by causing the deaths of hundreds of people killed in black-market criminal activities. I am proud to join all of the other Colorado physicians who support Amendment 64, a sensible measure whose time has come.”
