brazil cannabisCannabidiol, or CBD as it’s commonly referred to, has become very popular in the last couple of years due to the fact that it is an amazing treatment for those suffering from extreme forms of epilepsy. The nation of Brazil is considering legalizing CBD. I generally don’t like CBD-only medical marijuana programs because they are so limited. However, if it helps people in need, it’s still better than nothing. Per the New York Times:

Brazil will soon look into the possibility of legalizing the use of a marijuana derivative to treat people suffering from severe seizures.

ANVISA, the country’s Health Surveillance Agency says in a statement posted on its website that the “reclassification” of marijuana derivative cannabidiol, which is banned in Brazil, will be discussed starting next month.

The statement came Friday, one day after some 40 people protested in Brasilia to demand the legalization of cannabidiol.

No patient should have to go without medicine. CBD legalization is a no brainer because CBD does not have the psychoactive properties that THC does, so patients don’t get stoned from it. In a perfect world, all forms of medical marijuana would be legal in Brazil. But legalizing CBD is at least a step in the right direction.
