cannabis collaborative conference portland oregonI would say that the most common e-mail/message that I get from readers involves asking for tips on how to land a job in the marijuana industry. I have people contact me from all over the world asking how they can get in on the most exciting industry on the planet right now. I can’t blame them. Most ‘normal’ jobs are lame, and are hard to get fired up about. But for a cannabis enthusiast, there’s nothing better than the thought of being able to make a career out of something that they have so much passion for.

There are a lot of cannabis jobs out there, but there are also a lot of people applying for those jobs. Some areas have more jobs than others, and some companies are more desirable to work for than others. Getting a job in the cannabis industry is not the same as getting a job at the local restaurant. An applicant needs to know where to apply, and how to stand out from the crowd. Cannabis business owners are looking for very specific skill sets and personalities, so having your application, resume, and interview strategy dialed in is very important.

So how do you do that? The best advice I can offer up is asking the experts, and at the top of that list is the people at Viridian Staffing, who are doing a FREE career readiness seminar on February 2nd at the Portland Expo Center from 10:00 am – 2:30 pm. The seminar is a pre-conference event for the Cannabis Collaborative Conference which is taking place next week on February 3-4. The career readiness seminar doubles as a job fair, with hundreds of jobs up for grabs.

The career readiness seminar is a first come, first serve type deal, so make sure to get there as early as possible to ensure that you get a spot. Show up with your resume, drop it off for review, and set up a personal interview and/or get your resume reviewed. Maybe you aren’t ready to take the leap, and just want tips on how to make your resume better. That’s fine! Whether you are just ‘dipping your toe’ into the industry, or are ready to do a full on swan dive into the industry, this pre-conference event is a very, very good idea to check out if you are in the area.

The Cannabis Collaborative Conference is the second in a series of industry events. The first event, the Cannabis Creative Conference, was one of the best industry events that people had ever attended according to the personal stories I heard from people. This event should be even better, with Oregon on the verge of rolling out recreational business licenses, and a laundry list of world class speakers. This is the event that Portland Trailblazer legend Cliff Robinson will be speaking at, discussing his activism and his new brand ‘Uncle Spliffy.’ You can find out more about the career readiness seminar at this link here, and can find out more about the Cannabis Collaborative Conference at this link here. You can also check out the event on Facebook and Twitter.
