Quinnipiac University poll released this week has found that a vast majority of New York voters favor the legalization of medical cannabis. In all, 83% were found to be in support of the move, with just 15% opposed. A majority of New York voters – 51% to 44% – are also in support of legalizing recreational cannabis.

Medical cannabis legalization is favored by all political parties in New York, including 74% of Republican.

“Medical marijuana in New York, and in every other state surveyed by Quinnipiac, is a no-brainer,” says Maurice Carroll, Assistant Director of the Quinnipiac University Poll.

Earlier this week New York’s Senate Health Committee voted to approve a measure which legalizes medical cannabis, a move which is clearly supported by a wide majority of New York voters.

For the poll, Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,129 New York State voters between May 14 – 19. The survey has a margin of error of +/- 2.9 percentage points.
