Most groups, nationalities and events only get one holiday, but stoners have two: 4/20 and now 7/10.

Most groups, nationalities and events only get one holiday, but stoners have two: 4/20 and now 7/10.

As most know 710 is OIL spelled backwards and upside down. Take our word for it and don’t flip your laptop over or stand on your head…unless you want to, of course.

Anyhow, it’s not the date so much as the products: concentrations of cannabis in oil form, which have become wildly popular and for good reason.

Scientific research tells us that vaping concentrates seems to reduce the harmful lung effects of smoking.

This is a big deal, since the biggest risk of smoking weed is the smoke itself.

“People who vaporize report decreased respiratory symptoms” compared to those who smoke weed, according to Marilyn Huestis, chief of chemistry and drug metabolism at the National Institute on Drug Abuse, who has studied the physiological effects of vaping marijuana, told Buzz Feed.

In terms of dabbing, our scientist friends have a few words of caution about heat.

New research published in the journal ACS Omega from Portland State University (PSU) showed that high temperature dabbing causes the release of noxious chemicals.

Some dabbers like the “burn” of a relatively high-temp dab because it reminds them of smoking, and though many more prefer low-temp dabs, it has long been considered to be a matter of taste.

However, the work done at PSU has shown that this is no longer a matter of taste; high temperatures put dabbers at risk for inhaling methacrolein (a very noxious chemical) when dabbing at temps above 600°F, and large amounts of benzene (a potent carcinogen) when dabbed above 950°F. At temperatures lower than 600°F, methacrolein was still detected, but in very small amounts.

While this study sounds scary at a first glance, the fact that toxicologists have begun to study dabbing indicates that, for the first time, dabbing has gained legitimate attention by medical scientists.

So, it’s not all bad news … just keep your dabs a bit cooler.

Happy 710!
