Royal Oak, MI - The Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) is the only authorized solicitation of Federal employees in their workplaces on behalf of approved charitable organizations. Michigan Compassion is an eligible charity in the Southeastern Michigan Area CFC and has been participating in CFC fairs at federal properties amongst other local charities. The theme for the 2013 Southeastern Michigan Area CFC is “Giving the Gift of Hope”; in 2012 the regional CFC raised over $2.2 million for the approved charities.
Federal employees are able to make charitable contributions directly through payroll deduction to local, national and international charities. This is the first time in the programs history a Medical Cannabis Organization has been approved for the CFC Campaign. Federal employees now have the choice to support Michigan Compassion along with the other nonprofits eligible to participate in the CFC.
“It’s been a busy week with the CFC Charity Fairs at USPS, US Army Tacom, the Federal Courthouse and McNamara Federal Building,” said Heidi Parikh, Michigan Compassion’s Executive Director. “Michigan Compassion was welcomed with smiles and applauds from Federal Employees for their first season at the CFC Charity Fairs. This has been great outreach for the general public via our educational brochures and Guides.”
As a medical cannabis-based charity, Michigan Compassion has been setting new standards for those that follow. After the big announcement of Google’s huge grant award and subsequent other first-ever contributions, Michigan Compassion has taken action through their series of educational webinars, Karmanos Cancer Institute presentation and support of contribution-worthy causes like Curtis Kile’s wheelchair march to Washington, D.C. and Steve and Maria Green’s CPS case regarding Bree.
Michigan Compassion was accepted into the CFC because they are a 501(c)(3) exempt organization and have met all the necessary requirements. Their mission is to increase awareness and understanding through education, information and advocacy of all the medical benefits and healing properties of Cannabis. They are the first medical marijuana public charity in Michigan and only 1 of 4 in the United States to have received federal exemption.
