students for sensible drug policy ssdpI came across a wonderful opportunity while I was on Twitter yesterday. Become an intern with Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP) and earn college credits while helping to make the world a better place. Based off of our Google Analytics, I know that there are a lot of college students that visit this site, and I encourage all of you to apply. You can apply here, see more information below:

Applications are due Monday, August 26 at 11:59pm EST. Start dates are flexible.
All positions are unpaid, with class credit available. Interns will work in our Washington, DC office. Remote positions available for Media Relations and Web/Graphics internships on a case by case basis.

OUTREACH INTERN: As an Outreach Intern, you will work closely with SSDP’s Outreach Staff to facilitate communications among our vast US student chapter network. Outreach interns get to work hands on with our student leaders to help provide resources and support for campaigns, campus actions & demonstrations, and policy reform.

  • Qualifications: Ideal candidates are friendly, outgoing, communicative, and display a strong desire to work with other students to change drug policy around the country. Additionally, applicants should be proficient in the use Microsoft Office and Google Docs, possess strong oral and written communication skills, and are comfortable talking on the phone.

POLICY INTERN: As a Policy Intern, you will work on a variety of drug policy issues including Call 911 Good Samaritan Policies, campus drug and alcohol policies, marijuana and other drug policies, harm reduction policies, and drug education policies. Policy interns work to research, analyze, promote, draft, and compile information related to drug policy in the US, and work closely with SSDP staff members to create resources for students to change drug policy on their campus or in their state.

  • Qualifications: Ideal candidates possess a strong understanding of basic research skills and are familiar with the policies listed above. Additionally, applicants should be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Docs, and possess strong written communications skills. Prior work on legislative policy research and analysis is a plus, and strong understanding of drug policy reform efforts is also encouraged.

MEDIA RELATIONS INTERN: As SSDP’s Media Relations Intern, your responsibilities will include writing blog posts, aggregating current events/stories/relevant legislation and reporting them from SSDP’s perspective, writing op-eds/letters to the edits, press releases for big chapter events and national events, and interviewing/writing about SSDP chapters.

  • Qualifications: you must enjoy writing; must be proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Docs; must have previous writing experience; must be comfortable talking on the phone; Journalism or related field majors preferred, but not required.

WEB/GRAPHIC DESIGN INTERN: As SSDP’s Web/Graphic Design Intern, you will be responsible for coordinating with our Policy Intern to update our website with 911 Good Samaritan Policies, campus drug policies, and other research. Additional responsibilities will include creating shareable graphics/memes with research, facts, and statistics, setting up legislation tracking/rss feeds, and designing action-oriented landing pages to correspond with advertising campaigns

  • Qualifications: Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Docs; have experience with WordPress, graphic design, html/css
