Over 125 people turned out for our Kansas City Town Hall meeting on Wednesday, which makes it the best attended meeting so far! Once again, the audience was very supportive of legalization and was chomping at the bit to make legalization a reality in Missouri.

One basic question that attendees asked numerous times in one form another was when they could expect to vote on legalization and how they could help that process along. The answers given by each panelist almost universally fell into one of three categories:

  1. Talk about the issue, both with friends, family, and associates and with your elected officials.
  2. Stay informed by following this newsletter and receiving Show-Me Cannabis’ mobile updates by texting “smc” to 420420.
  3. Contributing financially.

When they heard that the biggest hurdle we face in putting legalization on the ballot is money, the crowd immediately responded by passing a hat and contributing what they could. In total, attendees gave $847 at the event, and others have gone online and signed up for recurring contributions!

Join them in supporting legalization in Missouri by contributing online now!

The meeting also attracted a ton of media coverage. As soon as I arrived at the library, four TV stations asked for interviews. We actually had to delay the beginning of the meeting a few minutes to finish them, but that’s a great problem to have! You can see a roundup of all that media coverage here.

We have another important town hall coming up next Tuesday, October 15 in Moberly. The meeting will take place in the auditorium of the main building of Moberly Area Community College starting at 6:30 p.m. and will feature criminal defense attorney and Show-Me Cannabis Regulation Board Chair Dan Viets, Saint Louis police sergeant and lobbyist for Show-Me Cannabis and the Saint Louis Tea Party Gary Wiegert, Representative Chris Kelly (D – Columbia), and myself.

Representative Kelly is considering introducing a bill that would refer legalization to the November 2014 ballot, but he says he will only do so if he believes there is enough support to pass such a measure. That’s why if you live in or around Moberly, it is imperative that you attend and show your support!

Even if you don’t live in the area, you can support the event by inviting people who do on the Facebook event page and contributing to our Mid-Missouri Media Campaign, so that we can buy radio and newspaper ads promoting the meeting.

For those of you in Southeast Missouri, don’t forget that our Cape Girardeau Town Hall Meeting is coming up on Monday, October 21 at the Cape Girardeau Public Library (711 N. Clark) at 6:30 p.m. Gary Wiegert, Rep. Paul Curtman (R – Pacific), and I will speak at that meeting. You can invite your friends on the event page and contribute to ads promoting the event on this page.
