students for sensible drug policy ssdpOne of my favorite events I ever attended was the Students for Sensible Drug Policy Conference in Denver in 2012. I made a lot of friends at that event that which I still talk to regularly to this day. Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP) is one of my favorite organizations because they empower and educate young people so that they can make a positive difference on this planet. Virtually all major drug reform organizations have SSDP alumni on their staff, and if they don’t, they should.

SSDP announced their 2016 conference, which is sure to be amazing. When it comes to reform, the speakers that they will have lined up will be second to none. The event is going to be held in Washington D.C., which is fitting since Washington D.C. has legalized marijuana now, and the event can also be used as an opportunity to lobby federal lawmakers. Below is more information about the event, via the SSDP website. I didn’t see a link to purchase admission yet, but I’ll either update this article to include that info when it’s posted, or even better, I’ll just post another article about it. I’d recommend signing up for their e-mail list so that you can stay in the loop on this event and all other things SSDP related. If you are able to, please make a donation to SSDP so that they can continue to do amazing things:

About SSDP2016

For the past decade, we’ve hosted our conference biennially, but starting in 2016, we’re excited to announce that we’re switching to an annual Spring conference schedule! During these extraordinary three-day events, the SSDP network comes together to celebrate, learn, connect, and advocate at the SSDP Conference.

Next spring, SSDP2016 will bring more than 400 student members, alumni, and supporters to Washington, DC for our largest-ever gathering featuring:

  • Educational programming. The core conference program will include prominent keynote speakers and panels addressing the hottest topics in policy, harm reduction, leadership, organizing, and advocacy.
  • Awards Ceremony + Dance Party. SSDP recognizes outstanding network members with an annual awards ceremony followed by a dance party.
  • Student Congress. Our annual student board member election and governing resolution process invites all SSDP members to participate in defining theirSSDP.
