One of the things that makes me most proud to call myself an Oregonian is that my state has the greatest political champion of cannabis reform in Congress. I am of course referring to United States Representative Earl Blumenauer from Oregon. Way before cannabis reform went mainstream and politicians started jumping on the bandwagon (which is fine), Earl Blumenauer was talking about cannabis reform with anyone that would listen. The first event that The Weed Blog ever attended was the national NORML convention in Portland, Oregon in 2010.
We could only afford one ticket at the time, plus I had to work, so Jay Smoker attended. He had a lot of fun at the event and made a lot of friends, but the thing that he was most excited about was hearing Earl Blumenauer speak. Earl told the crowd that there is way more support for cannabis reform in Congress than people thought, and that activists just needed to keep up the hard work and it would pay off. Zoom forward to today and here I am blogging in my home where I have several ounces of legal marijuana stored, and just got done having a fantastic dab session in my garage, which was also perfectly legal.
Earl Blumenauer is a pioneer, and any chance you get to hear him speak you should absolutely take advantage of it. Earl will be speaking at the Oregon NCIA member reception on Wednesday in Portland, Oregon. I get off work at five and will have to fight traffic for two hours to get to the event, but I’m hopefully going to make it in time to hear what he has to say. The event is free to NCIA members, and only $40 for non-members. I hope to see many smiling faces there!
