The Oregon Medical Marijuana Business Conference is coming to Portland, Oregon next month. There’s two main reasons why attending this event will be different then past events I have attended. The first is that this event will be right before recreational marijuana sales start in Oregon on October 1st. This event is very timely in that regard, as there is a lot to learn, both about the rules surrounding recreational marijuana, and to learn what plans people have for the new era of the marijuana industry in Oregon.
The other thing that makes this different is that it’s being held on the weekend. So many events are during the week, making it nearly impossible for working people like me to attend. This event is being held on a Saturday and Sunday, making it easy for people inside, and more importantly outside, of the industry to attend. The Oregon Medical Marijuana Program (OMMP) went through several important changes this past legislative session, some good, some bad, while the Oregon cannabis industry welcomed the huge news that the state had released the rules and regulations regarding the early start of cannabis sales to non-patient adults on October 1st. Rules have changed or will change for medical growers, patients, processors and dispensaries. I haven’t even gotten to the recreational marijuana regulations being developed by the Oregon Liquor Control Commission (OLCC) through the agency’s main Rules Advisory Committee (RAC) and subcommittees following Oregon’s historic Measure 91 legalization campaign.
