Our Kansas City Town Hall meeting is just five days away, and we have now confirmed Brian Leininger as our fourth panelist. Brian is a former assistant prosecutor for Johnson County, Kansas, where he came to see the war on drugs as an incredible waste of law enforcement resources. He is now an attorney in private practice and a member of of Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP).

Brian will be joining Show-Me Cannabis Regulation board chair and criminal defense attorney Dan Viets, SMCR board member Amber Langston, and me for the meeting this coming Wednesday, October 9. The meeting will take place in the Community Hall of the Woodneath Library Center (8900 NE Flintlock Road, Kansas City, MO 64157) starting at 6:30 p.m.

Tomorrow, I hope to finalize the purchase of $750 worth of radio advertising starting this weekend on KQRC (98.9 The Rock FM) and KRBZ (96.5 The Buzz FM) to promote the event. However, I need your help to make that possible. Contribute now to our Kansas City media campaign to help us purchase these ads!

Representative Chris Kelly (D – Columbia) has told us that he plans to take part in our Moberly Town Hall meeting the following week on Tuesday, 10/15, along with Dan Viets, Saint Louis police sergeant and Tea Party activist Gary Wiegert, and myself. That meeting will take place at Moberly Area Community College (101 College Avenue) starting at 6:30 p.m.

If you live in or around Moberly, it is particularly important that you attend because Representative Kelly has said that he would like to introduce a legalization measure in the legislature — but only if he thinks the political support exists to pass it. Please attend, invite your friends, and show the representative that legalization is popular all across Missouri!

Then, on Monday 10/21, I will travel to Cape Girardeau to speak on a panel with Gary Wiegert and Representative Paul Curtman (R – Pacific) at the Cape Girardeau Public Library at 6:30 p.m.

Finally, we have scheduled a new town hall meeting in Springfield for Friday, November 8 from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. We will show America’s Longest War, about the damage wrought by the War on Drugs. Following the film, I will participate in a panel discussion with SMCR board member Maranda Reynolds and Trish and Daryl Bertrand — who have experienced the negative effects of the drug war firsthand.

It’s not too soon to join the event page and start inviting your friends!

And, as always, if you support our efforts, please help us continue the fight by contributing now!
