I have always said that Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP) is one of my favorite organizations. One of the best weekends of my life was in March 2012 when I attended an SSDP Conference in Denver. I made so many friends at the event, and learned more in that weekend than probably any other weekend in my 33 years on this planet. I got to see first hand how passionate and talented SSDP members were for drug policy reform.
SSDP is holding another conference this Fall, and are combining the conference with a lobby day in Washington D.C.. If you are trying to get involved in drug policy reform, I highly encourage you to attend this event. The event also provides an amazing sponsorship opportunity. If you are a national reform organization and you haven’t signed up to sponsor the event, you need to do so ASAP.
Also, if you are a cannabis business, you should sponsor the event as well. I read everyday about cannabis businesses that are bragging about their profit margins and market expansions. It’s time everyone of those companies gave back and sponsored this SSDP event. In exchange for the sponsorship, these companies will receive exposure to the next generation of cannabis reformers and could potentially find a stellar employee. SSDP alumni are some of the best employees a cannabis company could ever ask for. Below are details about the event:
Over the course of three days every other fall, the SSDP network comes together to celebrate, learn, connect, and advocate at the SSDP Conference + Lobby Days. This year, SSDP2014 will bring more than 400 student members, alumni, and supporters to Washington, DC for our largest-ever gathering featuring:
- Educational programming. The core conference program will include prominent keynote speakers and panels addressing the hottest topics in policy, harm reduction, leadership, organizing, and advocacy.
- Awards Ceremony + Dance Party. SSDP recognizes outstanding network members with an awards ceremony followed by a dance party.
- SSDP Job Fair. Students and alumni will have a unique opportunity to connect with drug policy reform organizations and legal marijuana-related businesses seeking to enhance their growing staffs with young people who are uniquely dedicated and already trained in leadership skills.
- Student Congress. Our annual student board member election and governing resolution process invites all SSDP student members to participate in defining their SSDP.
- Lobby Day. Students, alumni, and network members will have a unique opportunity to lobby Members of Congress on a core issue for the SSDP network and other critical drug policy reforms with a team of like-minded advocates.
- And more. Alumni gatherings, regional meetups, networking meals, and other events offer nearly non-stop opportunities to connect with advocates and leaders of the drug policy reform movement!
Sponsorships
“I learned a lot about networking and making meaningful connections with people in the movement and the industry. I also walked away with a sense of empowerment to do really awesome things back home with my chapter!”
Sponsoring SSDP2014 will expose your organization or company to the largest contingent of future leaders in the drug policy reform movement — young people who have dedicated their precious extracurricular time to changing devastating policies on their campuses, in their states, and at the federal level. Additionally, your sponsorship supports production of SSDP2014 and the critical work SSDP staff will do to bring a world-class conference experience to young people hungry for connection and education.
