Several people who rely on marijuana to treat the symptoms of serious illnesses will deliver more than 90,000 petition signatures to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) headquarters on Friday calling for Acting Administrator Chuck Rosenberg to be fired or step down after he called medical cannabis a “joke.”
The petition — https://change.org/nojoke — has already generated almost double the amount of signatures garnered by an earlier petition that helped lead to the ouster of the previous DEA head, who also opposed medical marijuana.

Among the patients and family members delivering the petition to DEA on Friday are:
* TJ Thompson, a Navy veteran who uses medical cannabis to mange the symptoms of PTSD
* Beth Collins, whose daughter Jennifer has intractable epilepsy and uses cannabis oil to help control her seizures
* Sebastian Cotte, whose son Jagger uses marijuana extracts to find relief from mitochondrial disease
The petition was started by Marijuana Majority, an organization dedicated to ensuring that politicians, government officials and the media treat marijuana as a serious issue that is important to a growing majority of Americans.

Twenty-three U.S. states, the District of Columbia and Guam have comprehensive medical marijuana programs. Seventeen additional states have laws allowing for limited use of certain marijuana extracts, primarily by children suffering from severe seizure disorders. Americans for Safe Access, which is supporting the petition, reports that there are more than two million Americans who use medical cannabis in accordance with these state laws.
