In a passionate and heart-warming post on The Players Tribune, Eugene Monroe announced that he is quitting the game he loves.

Monroe, who is only 29-years-old, says the decision, “may be puzzling to some.” However, Monroe says he is thinking about his family. “Over 90% of former NFL players that have been examined shows signs of [CTE]. I am terrified.” A strong statement coming from the 6′ 5″ offensive lineman.

In recent months, Monroe has spent extensive time advocating for the expansion of medical marijuana research to find an alternate option to opioid use in the NFL. He says he will continue his advocacy of marijuana post-career.

While the future remains unknown, we at The Weed Blog would like to congratulate Eugene Monroe on a terrific career in the NFL, and we look forward to his bright future in the fight for legalization in America.
