The University of Michigan- Dearborn will host an academic and professional lecture on public health policy and medical/legal marijuana in Michigan at the Fairlane Campus South on December 3, 2015.

The lecture is titled, “Why Public Health is Best Policy Route for MM and for Legalization 2016″. The U of M- Dearborn has a Public Health Policy program. The lecture will be led by Professor Michael Whitty as part of his lecture series and features noted cannabis activists and speakers Jamie Lowell (3rd Coast Dispensary, Michigan ASA, MILegalize) and Rick Thompson (The Compassion Chronicles, Michigan NORML, MILegalize).

The event was organized by Professor Whitty, a member of the U of M-Dearborn faculty. Whitty, also known as “Dr. Detroit,” has taught at the U of D- Mercy and in several universities in California. His lecture series is popular, and previously included a discussion titled, “AIDS and the Origin of Medical Marijuana:    A Unique Marriage”.

Lowell and Thompson make their appearance approximately one week before each is due to speak in Washington, D.C. as part of the High Times National Business Summit 2015. Lowell will be receiving the H. T. Trailblazer Award; Thompson will be delivering a lecture titled, “Emergent Markets in the Midwest”.

The Dearborn lecture takes on a somewhat urgent tone as mainstream media focuses on recent events in Detroit regarding medical marijuana dispensaries, and in Lansing regarding pending bills in the legislature. Communities like Warren and Royal Oak are pondering additional restrictions on caregivers and patients, while both Portage and Keego Harbor said YES to local legalization proposal during voting in the general election earlier this month.

The Fairlane Center North campus is located in the Fairlane plaza off Hubbard Drive between Evergreen and Southfield.
