Trump Thinks the Death Penalty Should be Applied to Drug Dealers

Donald Trump is reportedly telling people that he favors the death penalty for people who deal drugs. Trump has told several people that he believes that drug dealers are as bad as serial killers and would like the United States to have more strict laws that would allow them to be executed by the government.

The President cited the murders of suspected drug traffickers in the Philippines as an example. Axios quotes a senior official from the administration as saying about Trump “He often jokes about killing drug dealers… He’ll say, ‘You know the Chinese and Filipinos don’t have a drug problem. They just kill them.’” Trump also talked about his admiration for Singapore, a country with mandatory death penalty drug laws.

The President of the Philippines has been accused of war crimes for his murderous rampage in his war on drugs. Filipino President Rodrigo Duterte has murdered anywhere from 3,900 to 7000 people with his war on drugs task force in less than two years. Along with anyone suspected of dealing drugs, the task force has also been accused of killing political rivals, critics and journalists. Duarte has also admitted to personally killing suspects in the past.

Trump conceded that such a law would never come to fruition in the U.S. because of the way the government is set up. However, he would quickly support legislation for mandatory 5-year-sentences for drug traffickers, even for low-level street dealers with small amounts of drugs.

Trump has agreed with the murderous dictator before, especially in their mutual disregard and hatred of President Obama. Trump has uttered many racist remarks and repeatedly suggested that Obama was an Islamic terrorist while calling him evil, sick and weak. Duarte has called Obama a son of a whore.

Advisor for President Trump Kellyanne Conway says that tougher penalties for drugs is popular with Trump’s base and law enforcement.
