Legalization advocates have written a comprehensive proposal for ending prohibition and fully legalizing Cannabis in MN

2018 was a good year for the Cannabis legalization movement, and we are excited about the prospects of advancing Cannabis legalization policy in the upcoming 2019 Minnesota state legislative session. We’ve written model legislation for full legalization, and we’re forming a coalition with other Cannabis legalization organizations and thousands of Minnesotans throughout the state. We all want to try to get a good bill passed at the Capitol in 2019, which would make it a hopeful new year for the more than 500,000 adult Minnesotan Cannabis consumers who don’t want to feel like criminals and live at-risk of being criminalized over a healing plant.

We are excited to announce that we’re organizing a Minnesota Cannabis Coalition made of legalization advocacy organizations (and others) including:
o Minnesota Campaign for Full Legalization
o Sensible Minnesota
o Sensible Change Minnesota
o Minnesota NORML
o Legal Marijuana Now
o Marijuana Policy Project
o Minnesota Marijuana

We are holding the first Minnesota Cannabis Coalition Forum on Sunday, December 30, 2018, 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM at New Rules, 2015 Lowry Ave N, Minneapolis, MN 55411.

Our Coalition will soon grow to include a diverse roster of nonprofit organizations, businesses, and most valuable, thousands of Minnesotan voters. We are getting organized to build the power to fully legalize Cannabis in our state urgently, and to make it plain, we want prohibition ended the right way, right away! We’re trying to recruit ten thousand Minnesotans to help us demand full legalization from our state legislators and Governor. We need your support to help us build momentum for the legalization movement in the new year.

Please show up to help us build the people power we need to win this fight to end Cannabis prohibition. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for, we need your voice to help us advocate for the Full Legalization Act we’re proposing.

See the attached model legislation for full legalization that we have written with our partners to use as an advocacy and organizing tool. Our model legislation is a comprehensive proposal for ending Cannabis prohibition, fully legalizing Cannabis for adult personal use, repairing victims of prohibition, and creating a tax fund to establish a regulatory system and to fund relevant public investments with the tax revenue from Minnesota’s future legal Cannabis industry, which we insist must be the best model of full legalization in the nation.

This is about human rights, it’s not about people getting high. This is about respecting personal freedom, increasing public safety, improving public health, and creating economic development statewide. Cannabis is a healing plant with no lethal dose, not a crime. Cannabis is an exit drug, not a dangerous killer drug. Prohibition of Cannabis has failed, it destroys lives, and it is structurally racist. Criminalizing Cannabis and the Minnesotans who need it is a senseless and expensive waste of law enforcement resources, and the collateral consequences of mass incarceration results in tens of thousands of disenfranchised Minnesotans who loose countless opportunities to live free and well. Prohibition is the problem, not Cannabis. Full legalization is the only solution!
