Cant We All Just Get A BongAll Governors need to follow the lead of Christine Gregoire (Washington), Peter Shumlin (Vermont) and Lincoln Chafee (Rhode Island) in petitioning the federal government to change the schedule of marijuana under the Controlled Substances Act. In all fairness, Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper has also stated that he will petition the federal government, but on his own. Colorado will file on their own as was already required by state law. That brings the total to four states out of 50.

Now is the time to put the pressure on the Governor’s of the remaining 46 states! Especially in the states that have medical marijuana programs, as they already know first hand that marijuana should be rescheduled. Marijuana activists have long stated that marijuana should be a state issue, but the federal government has used the Controlled Substances Act to exert a total ban on the first step to comprehensive reform. If the feds won’t listen to the average citizens of America, hopefully hearing it from us and several Governor’s Offices will do the trick.

If you don’t know how to contact your Governor’s Office, our friends at Americans for Safe Access have created a great tool to help:

Last month the political landscape on medical cannabis changed. The governors of Washington and Rhode Island filed a petition to reclassify cannabis for medical use. This is a huge opportunity for patients and the medical cannabis movement.

Governors Christine Gregoire (D-WA) and Lincoln Chafee (I-RI) have shown tremendous leadership in trying to change federal medical cannabis policy and other governors must be called on to do the same. The heavy arm of the federal government has affected the rights of patients in many medical marijuana states, not just Washington and Rhode Island. Help end the conflict between federal and state law by urging your governor TODAY to join the petition to reschedule cannabis! Click here to email your governor, and make sure to call his or her office as well! Your governor’s phone number is listed in the action alert.

A call, e-mail, or written letter doesn’t take that long to complete, and I guarantee it will help the cause. The remaining Governor’s are ripe to jump on the bandwagon, they just need to know that it’s what their constituents want. This is our time to shine! Whether you consume marijuana, or are just tired of wasting government resources, or you just want to inject logical reasoning into government and politics, get active and contact your Governor!!!
