Arizona Representative John Fillmore (R-Apache Junction) has introduced a bill to reduce the penalty for possession of marijuana to a $100 fine.
Fillmore made note of the number of people who end up with permanent arrests and convictions on their records for what amounts to experimental use.
“This would protect them from having that blemish,” he says.
The bill would make possession of two ounces or less of marijuana a petty offense and carry a fine of only $100.
“This would protect them from having that blemish,” Fillmore said.
Fillmore claimed his fellow republicans have been somewhat supportive. He described the reception among his GOP colleagues as “a lot of smiles and laughs,”
He is also looking to see how much money HB 2228 could save the state if passed.
The fact is the bill has almost no chance being signed into law as many people doubt it will ever even get heard on the floor, let alone signed into law. The bill has been assigned to the rules committee.
