This is not the longest article I have ever posted, but the info from SF ASA was just too good to not share:

SACRAMENTO – The Assembly Public Safety Committee approved AB 1017 by Tom Ammiano to downgrade marijuana cultivation from a mandatory felony to a wobbler (optional misdemeanor). The vote was 4-3, with San Mateo Democrat Jerry Hill joining the Republicans in opposing (despite the fact that his district voted for Prop 19). The bill goes next to the Appropriations Committee.
Mendocino County District Attorney testified in support of the bill. Although he has been joined in support by the DA’s of Humboldt and Lake counties, the California District Attorneys Association opposed the bill along with the usual cohort of law enforcement groups.
