A recently-released Pew Research Center survey has found that 48% of adults have tried marijuana in their life, up from 40% just three years ago. 12% have consumed marijuana within the past year.
Among that group, 47% stated that they consumed cannabis for recreational purposes, compared with 30% who cited a medical reason for its usage - 23% stated that they consumed marijuana for both medicinal and recreational purposes.
More than half – 56% – of young adults (under 30) say they’ve tried marijuana, and 27% say they’ve smoked it in the past year — by far the highest percentage in any age category.
51% of those aged 30 to 49 and 54% of those aged 50 to 64 have tried marijuana. The number is just 22% for those aged 65 and older.
A survey released by the Pew Research Center in April found that 52% of Americans support the legalization of marijuana.
