On the evening of Wednesday, October 21, Jeff Mizanskey will speak to the MU NORML Chapter at 7:00 p.m. in the Arts & Science Building, Room 113. Mr. Mizanskey was sentenced to serve life in prison without possibility of parole as a consequence of three relatively small marijuana offenses.
Also appearing with Mr. Mizanskey will be Dan Viets, the attorney who represented him in the parole hearing which took place on August 6 following Governor Nixon’s commutation of his sentence, making him eligible for parole, in May.
Show-Me Cannabis and Missouri NORML Chapters worked to build support for Mizanskey’s release. Nearly 400,000 signatures were submitted to an online petition and 126 members of the Missouri General Assemble signed a letter to Governor Nixon urging him to release Jeff from prison.
Since his release, Mizanskey has been very active in support of marijuana legalization. He is currently speaking in support of the Missouri Medical Marijuana Initiative recently filed with the Missouri Secretary of State and which is expected to appear on the ballot in Missouri in November of 2016.
