Arkansas medical marijuanaArkansas voted on medical marijuana during the 2012 Election. While the initiative didn’t pass, it laid the groundwork for future efforts, and started a very worthwhile discussion. 2014 efforts didn’t get on the ballot, but I think that 2016 is actually a better year for Arkansas. Getting medical marijuana approved at the ballot box in Arkansas is not going to be easy, but 2016 will hopefully see Arkansas join the list of other states that have passed medical marijuana initiatives.

The 2016 efforts are already ramping up, and have already been certified by the Arkansas Attorney General. Per a press release from the campaign:

The Arkansas Attorney General has certified the wording of the ballot title for the 2016 Arkansas Medical Care Act, clearing the way for Arkansans for Compassionate Care to start collecting signatures.

The new initiative adds more initial qualifying conditions for patients; improves the Affordability clause; provides for Cannabis Testing Labs; and further defines the Hardship Cultivation clause.

“We have more than 600 volunteers across the state who are preparing to gather signatures starting in just a few weeks,” said Melissa Fults, Campaign Director for the AMCA. “There’s no stopping us. We have the time and the people to make it happen!”
