A new poll commissioned by the Salt Lake Tribune, and conducted by SurveyUSA, has found that despite Utah being one of the most conservative states in the nation, 51% of Utah residents are in support of legalizing cannabis for medical purposes. This poll exemplifies the rapidly growing shift in public opinion surrounding the medical use of cannabis.
A poll released in August by the Libertas Institute also found a majority in Utah to be in support of medical cannabis legalization; according to that poll, 61% are in favor of such a move, with just 28% in opposition.
In November, three Utah doctors, including a neurologist from the University of Utah, sent a letter to the state’s Controlled Substances Advisory Committee, announcing their support for allowing medical cannabis to be used by children who suffer from seizures.
