Supporters of medical marijuana in New Hampshire on Monday announced the release of radio ads calling on New Hampshire residents to urge their state senators to support SB 409, which would allow doctors to recommend cannabis to patients with cancer, AIDS, multiple sclerosis, and other debilitating illnesses.

The ad — which will be broadcast in the Merrimack Valley, Seacoast, and Lakes Region media markets — features Tuftonboro resident and former selectman Ted Wright, whose wife Cindy found relief from the nausea caused by her life-saving breast cancer treatments by using marijuana.

?”Sadly, the prescription anti-nausea drugs just haven’t helped, and at one point it looked like she might have to stop the treatments,” Wright says in the ad. “Desperate, she tried medical marijuana in another state, and it relieved her nausea instantly. Shouldn’t patients like Cindy be allowed to use medical marijuana legally in New Hampshire?”

Wright goes on to ask that New Hampshire residents call their senators and urge them to support SB 409, which would allow seriously ill patients with qualifying conditions to use marijuana with recommendation from a doctor. Qualifying patients would be allowed to possess up to six ounces of marijuana without fear of arrest, and they or their licensed caregiver could cultivate up to six plants.

Currently, 16 states and the District of Columbia allow seriously ill patients to treat their conditions with cannabis. Medical marijuana legislation passed the New Hampshire House of Representatives in a 221-96 vote last year. SB 409 could receive a vote in the New Hampshire Senate as soon as next week.

If you’re a New Hampshire resident and would like to see your state become the 17th in the nation to pass an effective medical marijuana law, please email your senator today or call the Senate switchboard at (603) 271-2111 and ask for your senator’s office.
