A benefit to support the legalization of marijuana in Michigan is being held in the birthplace of the Republican Party- Jackson, Michigan.
Jackson County NORML is hosting a movie night fundraiser for MILegalize on November 27th. MILegalize is the Michigan Comprehensive Cannabis Reform Initiative; they are in the final weeks of a petition drive to place legalization of marijuana on the ballot in 2016.
The two movies being shown are the classis anti-marijuana propaganda film, ‘Reefer Madness’ and the classic-in-a-different-sense movie, ‘Up In Smoke’ featuring Cheech and Chong. The event is being organized by Steven Sharpe, a Board member of the MILegalize organization and the Assistant Executive Director of the Michigan chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws.
Jackson claims the Republican Party was created in their area, and numerous signs attest to that. The historic Michigan Theater is one of the state’s landmark buildings.
All proceeds go to the initiative. Doors open at 6:30. ’Reefer Madness’ will start at 7:00, with ‘Up In Smoke’ following.
Afterwards the Night Light bar will be having a special event: for anyone who comes down after the movie and shows their ticket, the Jackson County Compassion Club will be donating 5$ to MILegalize!
Come support MILegalize at Jackson’s historic Michigan Theatre, 124 N. Mechanic Street. Admission to this special fundraiser is $20.
