I came across this list on StumbleUpon, and when I tried to click the link, it took me to a page that required login information. After several failed attempts at trying to register, I just decided to copy and paste the list below. Whether or not it is their actual list I’m not sure, but if so, here is my critique.
For starters, I am from Oregon. I grew up in Oregon, I attended and graduated from college in Oregon, and FOR THE LOVE OF MARIJUANA THERE IS NO UNIVERSITY OF OREGON ON THE TOP 20??? Ok, let’s calm down and at least give props to the universities that made the list from Oregon…oh wait, Lewis and mother f’n Clark is the sixth most marijuana friendly college in America? You better ‘check your hypotenuses dude’ because the grading scale on this list is horrendous. Has anyone ever been to Lewis and Clark’s campus? I went to a few parties there in college, and there was NO weed. None. The last party I went to there, I brought my own, and people looked at me like I was committing a lewd public act.
Reed College is slightly less uptight, but it’s known far more for pain killers and smack than it is for the lush greens. Southern Oregon University is ten times more marijuana friendly than both of those campuses combined, and even SOU pales in comparison to the Eugene campus and area. I was just there last weekend visiting Ninjasmoker smoking out at Hendricks Park. To quote Ninjasmoker, “I’ve been up here 40 times in the last few weeks to puff down, and I’ve never seen a cop. I saw two old hippies having sex, and a naked lady jogging, but I have yet to see a cop.” That’s just one of many parks and other areas that are marijuana friendly in Eugene. It doesn’t even bother me to smoke in public most of the time because it’s so accepted.
The schools in Colorado and California are no doubt legit, but Bard College? I’ve never been there, but I have to assume it can’t be too marijuana friendly when they have a legal system that cracks down on consumers with a raw ferocity. Campuses should be judged on their quality of marijuana, the quantity, the amount of activism on campus, how friendly the outside community is towards it, and above all, how much is consumed. If a school only has a student population of 1700, and it’s in a very unfriendly state, I think it’s safe to say there isn’t a whole lot going on there in regards to marijuana. I don’t care how ‘cool’ the students think it is. However, when you are published on the East Coast, it will sway your vote. West Coast publications get accused of the same thing all of the time in relation to our top campus lists. The worst 20 list is pretty cool though. I have never seen one of those before. Ok, I guess the Princeton Review isn’t all bad ha ha.
