Microdosing Weed: From Medical-Use Only to a Lifestyle Supplement

Cannabis is going from medical-use only to a lifestyle supplement as more states go recreational. In both pioneering states like Colorado, and new adult-use states like California, there’s a new trend emerging: Microdosing Weed.

Products like Root of it All‘s cannabis-infused essential oils, and low-dose Kiva Confections are prime examples of companies making cannabis-infused products that are less potent, promising to add a boost to your day, instead of interrupting it.

‘Start low and go slow’, It’s a necessary evolution from consumers getting completely stoned, to safely learning how much is too much.

It’s a familiar phrase in the Colorado’s cannabis scene. It’s also one of the tenants of safe consumption taught by industry regulators in the Centennial State.

With their products, these companies are also providing consumers with safer options to ease into edibles, as microdosing weed may help consumers learn more about their tolerance.

Tom Regan, of Denver-based TR Concentrates, is passionate about working with a new brand that’s revolutionizing the infused-oil sector with low-dose essential oils. “We have evolved the tincture; we have developed a product line of healthy, holistic oils that work naturally with the body’s endocannabinoid system.”

It’s essential oils, infused with cannabis oil, and you just take a few drops under your tongue – as much or little as you want. It does contain THC – in below average doses compared to whats currently on dispensary shelves. Discreet and easy to throw in your gym bag or purse, at 3mg a dose —consumers won’t have to worry about the buzz interfering with their day.

It’s meant for the sensible cannabis user who wants control over consistent experience, explains the company. The product is discreet, without the skunky smell or taste, and it’s uptake is quicker than edibles.

California-based Kiva Confections has the Petra brand of ready-made microdose edibles in mint and candy form.

Kiva marketing manager Christie Strong tells Maxim that for states like California and Massachusetts where weed is now legal for recreational use, a product like Petra “can comfortably ease them into edibles use as the format and potency both guard a user from overingestion.”
