Doug’s most recent book - Hemp Bound: Dispatches from the Front Lines of the Next Agricultural Revolution - was written after two-year investigation into the economic and environmental benefits of industrial hemp, a soon-to-be billion-dollar industry with the potential to improve our farms, our diets, our environment, and wean us off of our dependence on petroleum. Doug’s investigation into hemp production and processing placed him in fields, labs, and factories all over the world; his collaboration with global hemp experts while writing this book have given him a bird’s eye view of the emerging industrial hemp industry in the United States.

Though his most recent work is focused on hemp production and industry, Doug has also been outspoken about the impact of the War on Drugs and the prohibition of Cannabis in the United States. In Too High to Fail: Cannabis and the New Green Economic Revolution, he examines how the American people have borne the massive economic and social expenditures of the failed Drug War, which is ‘as unconscionably wrong for America as segregation and DDT.’ Doug joins an impressive list of speakers attending the conference, including Oregon’s own Congressman Earl Blumenauer, former Dish writer Andrew Sullivan, and luncheon speaker, the “Ganja Guru”, Ed Rosenthal. Doug’s presentation will take place on Sunday and is titled: Hemp: A Blueprint for the Next Agricultural and Industrial Revolution; he will be focusing on the topic of his aforementioned book and the emerging billion dollar global cannabis industry.

The International Cannabis Business Conference provides a unique opportunity for cannabis activists and entrepreneurs to network, discuss, and get involved with the flourishing cannabis industry. Mark your calendars! The conference takes place the weekend of September 13th & 14th and is located at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland.
