Commissioners in Clark County, Nevada have approved 101 applications from medical marijuana businesses. The announcement came earlier this week. Applications are for medical marijuana growers, producers, and for laboratory facilities.
A total of 112 applications were submitted in Clark County. 101 of those applications were approved as previously mentioned, with only five of the applications being rejected. The other six applications were withdrawn for unspecified reasons. Per Las Vegas Review Journal:
The marathon, seven-hour hearing capped the county’s foray into approving medical marijuana applications for special use permits. They approved 58 permits for cultivation facilities, 38 permits for production facilities and five permits for laboratories for testing the medical marijuana.
The applicants will still need approval from the state. Commissioners earlier this month approved 18 applications for dispensaries in unincorporated Clark County.
The application approvals came after warnings from gaming regulators, who said that gaming industry members could not be a part of the emerging medical marijuana industry in Nevada. Federal regulators also warned casino owners that they should turn away bets made by members of the medical marijuana industry. Despite attempts by marijuana opponents to scare people away from the medical marijuana industry in Nevada, it appears that medical marijuana industry momentum in Nevada is growing.
Clark County, Nevada includes Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Mesquite, Henderson, and Boulder City.
