It didn’t take long for the results to start pouring in favor of the Florida Medical Marijuana! Within less than two hours after polling places closed, Amendment 2 gained enough traction with the majority of votes.
With 70% polling places reporting, the current results on the Florida Medical Marijuana Legalization Initiative, Amendment 2, are in!
Florida Medical Marijuana Legalization Initiative passes with 71.1% support.
“This is a major tipping point. With Florida’s decision, a majority of states in the U.S. now have laws allowing patients to find relief with medical marijuana, and these protections and programs are no longer concentrated in certain regions of the country like the West and Northeast,” Tom Angell of Marijuana Majority said in a statement to the Washington Post.
The 2016 Amendment 2 initiative legalizes and states:
- the medical use of marijuana for individuals with debilitating medical conditions as determined by a licensed Florida physician,
- allows caregivers to assist patients’ medical use of marijuana,
- and that the Department of Health shall register and regulate centers that produce and distribute marijuana for medical purposes and shall issue identification cards to patients and caregivers.
Florida voted on medical marijuana for the second election cycle in a row. The 2014 results saw medical marijuana narrowly defeated at 2%.
