March 26, 2016

trichomes marijuana25 people so far have posted resumes in answer to a new job opening in the metro Detroit area: Medical Marijuana Program Inspector.

“Under direct supervision, incumbents perform the range of duties following specified protocols during the inspection of Medical Marijuana dispensaries. Inspection and investigative work is reviewed on an ongoing basis,” per the job listing. The posting also lists “Exposure to the odor and/or the handling of marijuana, marijuana products, and products used to cultivate marijuana” as a special requirement of the Inspector’s position.

Also listed: the need to “work effectively with frequent interruptions and distractions in locations such as dispensaries, and processing facilities.” This phrase stands out as odd: the City of Detroit did not authorize medical marijuana processing facilities in their Caregiver Center ordinance, and the Detroit ordinance is the only new one under which any new distribution centers are being licensed.

The advertisement was posted by the Southeastern Michigan Health Association, whose Executive Director is Gary Petroni and Deputy Director is Jeremy Andrews. Their website describes the organization as “a tax exempt nonprofit corporation, 501(c)(3), dedicated to improving community health by providing grant management, fiduciary, research, planning and other services.”

The job description appears on the ‘Indeed’ website. It describes a qualified candidate as one who has a bachelor’s degree or better in a wide array of fields, from botany to human medicine, from health care administration to criminal justice.

Applications must be turned in by April 1, 2016. Information from the Indeed.com listing is below.
