Stoned Lobster?
When it came out this past week that a lobster restaurant in Maine was offering its patrons the option of having their crustaceans “sedated” with weed before tossing them into a pot of boiling water, the owner claimed that the lobster appeared more tranquil and therefore the practice was compassionate.
“If we’re going to take a life we have a responsibility to do it as humanely as possible,” said owner of Charlotte’s Legendary Lobsters Pound, Charlotte Gill Roscoe.
The practice begs a few questions: Do lobsters’ receptors work the same way as humans’ and would pot have a similar effect on them? Gizmodo reached out to several experts on the weed- crustacean relationship and their responses were similar: There’s no proper info on the topic.
Las Vegas
A new, first-of-its-kind cannabis museum opened Thursday Sept.20 in downtown Las Vegas, with all manner of 420-friendly experiences for visitors.
The Cannabition Cannabis Museum features a variety of made-for-social-media exhibits, including a slide that empties into a pool of foam pot “nuggets,” a glow-in-the-dark tree and a 24-foot bong, “Bongzilla,” that’s being touted as the world’s largest and a six-foot-tall, cannabis-leaf-shaped gummy.
There is also a space with huge faux buds representing different pot strains and another room with Hunter S. Thompson’s legendary “Red Shark” Chevrolet Caprice.
Cannabition founder, J.J. Walker, hopes to further de-stigmatize cannabis consumption even though it’s been legal in Nevada for over a year.
Your Wife’s Weed Consumption
Actor Dax Shepard defended his wife Kristen Bell after she told comedian Marc Maron on his WTF podcast that she enjoys vaping. Bell consumes openly in front of her husband who has been sober for 14 years, after having struggled with drug and alcohol abuse in the past.
“I like my vape pen quite a bit and I smoke around my husband,” Bell said. “It doesn’t seem to bother him.”
“Weed rules,” she added.
On Wednesday, CBS’ “The Talk” referenced the couple’s situation in a tweet: “Kristen Bell vapes weed around Dax Shepard, even though he’s sober. If you were sober, would you expect your spouse to be?” Good point.
