hemp kentucky sb 50 industrial farmingYesterday, after a tense week of political maneuvering, the Kentucky House Agriculture and Small Business Committee held a vote for Senate Bill 50, the industrial hemp farming bill, and it passed 24 to 1. The bill has already passed the Kentucky Senate and should now get a vote on the floor of the House, where it’s expected to pass if a vote is held. But, due to obstructionism a vote may not be held. We need your help and ask that you make phone calls in support of SB 50 today and every day until a House vote is actually held!

URGENT: Please call the Kentucky Legislative Message Line at 1-800-372-7181 to leave messages for your elected officials. You will need to give them your name and address. Once you are entered into the system, the information stays there so that they can quickly pull up your info and legislators in future calls. Tell them you want to leave a message for your Representative and Rep. Greg Stumbo, the Speaker of the House. Here are the messages for each of the people above:

* Speaker Stumbo: Please allow Senate Bill 50, the industrial hemp farming bill, to get a vote on the House floor.

* Your House Representative: Please vote in favor of Senate Bill 50, the industrial hemp farming bill.

These messages appear to the legislators in the form of green slips. A green slip is a small piece of paper about the size of a Post-It note. Every time a citizen leaves a message through the hotline, their legislator gets a green slip on their desk. The more green slips they get, the more they pay attention to an issue. Hemp will be hard to ignore, especially with Senator Mitch McConnell’s support and his cosponsorship of a hemp bill in Congress. Please click here to watch Senator McConnell speaking about hemp in his own words.

When you finish leaving a message in support of industrial hemp, please pass the information and phone number to friends and family and ask them to leave messages as well. You may call every day, every week, and as many times as you like. The LRC Message Center is staffed with operators Monday through Thursday 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM and Friday 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The message line is there for your use and is by far the most effective way to get your legislator on board with an issue. Again, the number for the legislative hotline is 1-800-372-7181 and the web site is www.lrc.ky.gov. Thank you so much for your support!
