Vote Hemp published a letter from Missouri Representative Billy Long which was a response to one of his constituents that asked him to support the Industrial Hemp Farming Act of 2013. I find it odd that someone who dislikes hemp so much, doesn’t even understand what it is. Is he serious? Read for yourself below:
Dear Constituent,
Thank you far contacting me with your thoughts on the legalization of marijuana and hemp.
There is considerable controversy regarding drug policy reform, including marijuana This controversy ranges from the costs necessary to enforce current law to its potential to cause harm throughout society, such as low productivity and health concerns. There are concerns that legalizing marijuana and hemp would open the door to legalizing other drugs such as opiates, cocaine and hallucinogens.
While I am a strong believer in personal freedom, I do not support the recreational or medical use of illegal drugs regardless of whether the drug is marijuana, cocaine, or any other illegal substance. Congress has made decisions to protect our nation from certain illegal drugs, and allowing each state to make its own decision would adversely affect the protections that exist against those substances.
Again, thank you for contacting me on this important issue. Hearing the views of all Missourians gives me the opportunity to better understand how important issues could impact the people of the Seventh District and the future interests of the nation.

Sincerely,
Billy Long
Member of Congress
