In a move that seems to be a no-brainer, a marijuana store in Pueblo, Colorado has entered into an agreement with Tommy Chong to use his name and product endorsements at their store. The deal includes a marijuana strain that will be developed and named after Tommy Chong, as well as other products.
The store that Tommy Chong is partnering up with is called ‘Marisol Therapeutics’, which I’m assuming is going to see a huge increase in business due to the partnership they have with Tommy Chong. It’s reported that the strain and products carrying the Tommy Chong brand will be high CBD related. This is great news for people that want the medical benefits of CBD. Although, I wish there was another strain bred for high THC. I guess only time will tell if that happens.
This is not the first time that Tommy Chong has done endorsements with the marijuana industry. The first one that comes to mind for me was the now infamous ‘Chong Bongs’ that he did in the early 2000’s. That endorsement deal resulted in Tommy Chong serving a stint in prison, even though he didn’t make them. Hopefully the feds don’t try to make an example out of him again due to his new deal.
Contrary to initial reports, Tommy Chong does not own Marisol Therapeutics, nor is he an investor in the shop. Colorado law requires all investments in marijuana businesses be made by someone who has been a Colorado resident for at least two years. I won’t be surprised to see more marijuana celebrities getting endorsement deals. If anyone wants to create a ‘Johnny Green’ line of products, feel free to contact me. Although, I don’t think I’ll bring 1/100th of the star power that Tommy Chong does :)
