women growWomen Grow, a national network supporting female entrepreneurs in the cannabis industry, will launch its Portland chapter in May 2015. The chapter’s May 7 event, the first in a regular monthly series, will feature networking opportunities and industry perspectives. Women Grow invites women (and men) at all different stages of their career in the cannabis industry to connect with colleagues, explore professional opportunities and learn about the industry.

“With its rapidly expanding network of female leaders, Women Grow will provide a substantial contribution to the success of women involved in Portland’s cannabis industry,” said Jazmin Hupp, Co-founder & Executive Director of Women Grow. The May 7 event will feature a moderated panel discussion with Tina Cox, agronomist and I502 producer processor; Ellen Flenniken, Deputy Director of Development with Drug Policy Alliance; and Genny Kiley, Attorney/Shareholder with Emerge Law Group.

Event sponsors include: Cascadia Labs, Drip Ice Cream, Emerge Law, Farma, Hifi, Maya Media Collective, New Approach Bookkeeping, Pacific Green and The Weed Blog.

Leading the Portland chapter are co-chairs, Sara Batterby and Leah Maurer. The two women share different backgrounds in relation to the cannabis industry but both are passionate about diversity and the evolution of the industry. Batterby offers 20 years of expert leadership in early stage companies in the technology and finance space. A tireless activist and grass roots organizer, Maurer played a key role in the establishment of New Approach Oregon and also launched “Moms for Yes on 91.” Their combined experience will offer meaningful support to those who wish to learn about, or enter the cannabis industry.

“Women Grow is an essential resource for female leaders within the cannabis industry and for those considering a career in the space. We are excited to introduce the Portland chapter and deliver education, a strong network of support and valuable connections and professional opportunities,” said Batterby. “The rapid development of Women Grow demonstrates a high demand for female cannabis businesswomen to have their voices heard,” added Maurer. “We believe that Women Grow will help to create a positive, influential role for women in our state’s cannabis industry.”
