Opponents know that if they just drag their feet, that marijuana prohibition will stay in place because after all, if prohibitionists and supporters both never lifted a finger, prohibition remains intact. Opponents know that, which is why they constantly try to punt when it comes to a serious conversation about marijuana research.

The cannabis plant has all kinds of beneficial properties that are just waiting to be understood by researchers. However, there are many hurdles that get in the way of marijuana research projects. That’s the topic of a panel discussion at UNLV today. Participating will be three people that I admire very much. John Hudak from the Brookings Institution, leading marijuana researcher Dr. Sue Sisley MD, and NFL player Eugene Monroe will all be on the panel.

You would be hard pressed to find someone that knows more about the public policy side of cannabis research, especially the hurdles, than John Hudak. Dr. Sue Sisley MD has been in the news a lot the last couple of years because of the issues she has experienced when trying to conduct marijuana research. Her first hand experiences would be very interesting to hear I’m sure. Eugene Monroe has been very vocal lately about the need for more cannabis research related to football injuries, and his #cannabis4pain campaign has been receiving a lot of attention. Any one of those three speakers is reason enough to come out to an event, let alone all three of them on the same panel.

Below is more information about the panel, via the event’s listing on The Grove NV:
