42 DIY Edible Recipes

October 20, 2020
Make your own DIY edibles like show here.

With auburn leaves and crisp autumn mornings in front of us – it’s time to hunker down, throw on a sweater, and break out a recipe to prep for hibernation. But Julia Child’s Mastering the Art of French Cooking just won’t get the job done this time. 2020 has proved to be a hellscape with no end in sight, and we require dishes that will lift us up and knock us out!

A buffet of grade-A cannabis edibles can do exactly that, and we’ve compiled a list of DIY edibles that will make your mouth water and your eyelids heavy. But before we eat away our sorrows, there are a few basic pillars of DIY edibles that must be addressed.

The Basics of DIY Edibles

1. Decarbing Your Weed

While it’s no filet mignon, and you most likely won’t be gobbling down plain decarbed pot anytime soon – decarbing your weed is essential in ensuring your DIY edibles have the potent effects that every stoner is looking for.

What Does it Mean to Decarb Your Weed?

In short, decarboxylating your weed ensures your flower is psychoactive, or high-inducing. Not all cannabinoids are psychoactive from the get go. Applying heat to your cannabis converts THC-A into weed’s primary psychoactive compound – THC, thus “activating” it. To decarb your bud and prep it to be included in some delicious recipes, follow the link above.

2. How to Make Cannabutter

Now that your pot is decarbed and your stomach is growling, you’re only one step away from letting loose on a whole treasure trove of edible recipes. That step’s name: Infusion. Taking a beautiful, fat-based backbone of the culinary world and infusing it with THC is the most common way to integrate cannabis into your cooking. And what’s the infusion agent of choice? Butter, of course!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup of butter
  • 10 grams of ground, decarbed bud

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Over low heat, melt your butter in a saucepan. Be sure to not scorch the butter (if you’re worried, you can add up to a cup of water to help regulate heat).
  2. As the butter melts, add your decarbed marijuana. Stir well.
  3. Let the mixture simmer for 2-3 hours, maintaining a low heat. Keep the mixture at a temperature between 160 and 200 degrees F.
  4. When the butter cools a bit, strain the mixture through a cheesecloth to remove the bud scraps.
  5. Refrigerate or freeze the strained butter until it’s solidified.

3. How to Make Cannabis-Infused Olive Oil

Cannabis-infused olive oil is a healthier, plant-based method for adding a psychoactive kick to your dishes. Like butter, oil is 100% fat. However, olive oil has less saturated fat and no cholesterol, so if you’re looking for a health-conscious way to eat food and get high – olive oil is the way to go!

4. How to Make Cannabis-Infused Nut Butter

While high-class culinary innovation has its place in the cannabis culture, sometimes people just want a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. If you’re one of those people, cannabis-infused nut butter can be what takes your sandwich from elementary school to “higher” education.

5. How to Make Weed Tinctures

Tinctures offer a clean simplicity that the other options we’ve discussed can’t live up to. Using alcohol to leech the THC from the flower, tinctures become a liquid cannabis concentrate. And unlike with cannabis olive oil or cannabutter, you won’t look insane trying to ingest a tincture on its own. Generally, tinctures are ingested by dropping a few drops of the concentrate under your tongue, but they can also be used to create a variety of edibles, including ice creams, cocktails, and candy!

DIY Edibles: Wake and Bakes

6. Cannabis-Infused Peaches and Biscuit Recipe

You can’t go wrong with a home cooked, Southern style meal. This quick and easy cannabis-boosted breakfast pairs sugar and cannabutter-coated peaches, crunchy pecans, and warm biscuits to make a flavor combination that tastes like home and feels like heaven.

Whether you’re sticking with the classic Cream Cheese and Strawberry or venturing to the uncharted areas of Wildberry and Boston Cream Pie, you’re going to wind up in a happy place.
