As I’m sure you are aware, the State of Colorado legalized cannabis during the 2012 Election. Legal recreational cannabis sales started in Colorado on January 1, 2014. Contrary to what cannabis opponents were hoping for, the sky didn’t fall. In fact, cannabis legalization implementation has been very smooth in Colorado, and Colorado has been reaping the tax benefits from legal recreational cannabis sales.
A poll was recently conducted and released by Qunnipiac University which found that Colorado voters are still satisfied with cannabis legalization. Per the poll:
After six months of legal marijuana use, Colorado voters support the measure 54 – 43 percent, identical to the findings of an April 28 survey by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN- uh-pe-ack) University, and down slightly from the 58 – 39 percent support February 10.
I always love it when polls like this confirm that cannabis legalization is still supported by the residents that passed the reform, because it’s extremely hard for cannabis opponents to spin the information in their favor. Cannabis opponents would love to say ‘I told you so.’ However, in the case of Colorado, they haven’t been able to say that yet, nor do I expect them to ever be able to say it. It’s time every state followed Colorado’s lead and took a new approach.
