Cannabis legalization is a very popular topic these days, with so many cities and states pursuing reform efforts. In the United States, voters in Oregon, Alaska, and Washington D.C. will be voting on cannabis legalization this November. Polls in Oregon and Washington D.C. show the initiatives winning. Unfortunately, the latest poll out of Alaska shows it losing. However, it's worth noting that Alaska is a very hard place to get an accurate poll due to geography and the fact that the population of the state is so scattered.

There is majority support in other parts of North America. One of those places is Alberta, Canada. Per Insights West:

While roughly half of Albertans claim to have never tried marijuana, a majority of the province's residents are in favour of legalization, a new Insights West poll has found.

In the online survey of a representative provincial sample, 52% of Albertans support the legalization of marijuana, while 42% are opposed.

Support for marijuana legalization is highest among men (61%) and residents aged 35-to-54 (57%), and lowest among women (45%) and residents aged 55 and over (47%).

Cannabis politics are heating up all over Canada. The Conservative Party has been attacking Justin Trudeau's cannabis stance any chance that they get. Also, long time activist and hero to many Marc Emery recently returned to Canada after a prison stint in America. Health Canada is ramping up an anti-cannabis propaganda campaign. It's worth watching what happens up in Canada, whether you live there or not. I'm hopeful more polls will come out that show majority support for reform in major Canadian metro areas.

Canadian cannabis law reform advocate, politician and entrepreneur, Philippe Lucas, will be on hand to discuss the cannabis industry in America's northern neighbor at the International Cannabis Business Conference. Please join us on September 13th & 14th at the Oregon Convention Center in beautiful Portland, Oregon. Get your tickets while they last!
